Single Sided Flexible Circuits consists of a single conductor layer (see picture below).
It can be fabricated with or without coverlayers. Insulating base material depends on different PCB applications.
Commonly the materials are: PI, PET, PEN

Flexible PCB for led strip
Single-sided flexible PCB can be further divided into the following four categories:
1)with coverlayer one side connection
The conductor pattern of such kind of flexible PCB is on the insulating substrate, there is no coverlayer on the conductor layer. It’s just the same as the single sided rigid PCB.
This is the cheapest kind, usually used in harmless and environmental protection applications. Achieving their interconnection by soldering, welding or bonding.
It is commonly used in the early telephone.
2)without coverlayer one side connection
Compares with the above kind, there is the coverlayer on the conductor layer with the copper pads be exposed. It is a single-sided flexible PCB with the most applications, widely used in automotive instruments, electronic instruments.
3)Without coverlayer two sides interconnection
The connection interface can be connected with the front or the back of the conductors by opening a via on the insulating substrate besides the pad. This via can be made by punching, then etching or other mechanical methods. We choose this kind of PCB when there are components on two sides or the PCB require soldering process. There is no insulating substrate around the pads area, so the pads should be removed by chemical methods if necessary.
4)With coverlayer two sides interconnection
There is a coverlayer on the surface and there is the via on the coverlayer. Also this kind of PCB can be connected with the front or the back of the conductors but the coverlayer was remained. Such flexible PCB is made of two layers of insulating material and a layer of metal conductors. Usually it is used in this situation: the coverlayers should be insulated from its surroundings but also insulated from each other and themselves, and the positive and negative should be connected at the end side.
